Are we forced to buy from multiple retailers with branches in every major UK town. Countless jokes and comedy sketches have been based on customers and sales people in high street furnishers. To those real-life furniture shoppers it is no joke. We seem to be dominated by multiple furniture retailers with branches in every town, and being dragged from one home furnisher to the next is not funny - especially when it all begins to look the same, and then the purchase is made at the very first furniture shop that was visited. We are also plagued by the perpetual sale stores who lead us to believe that this really is a genuine furniture sale! This is compounded by the migration of furniture shops from the high street to retail parks. Shareajourney

- Many of us don't think twice about sharing a journey ..... on the
bus, train, plain or boat, we all share (and complain about the journey)
. But when it comes to sharing our car, now that's a different story.
Whilst crawling in traffic I began looking at all the cars with no
passengers, mine included. I looked at four cars in a line, each driven
by a mum or nanny and each had a child in the car - all with the same
school uniform, clearly going to the same school. The cars were all
big 4X4 petrol guzzlers and I couldn't help wondering if the drivers
knew each other - the school children certainly did! As other lone
drivers silently cursed 'The School Run', it crossed my mind about
Reno, in Nevada where I remember looking at one lane that was particularly
created strictly for car sharers. Even a free car park for 'Car Poolers',
the principle is simple; one drives to a car pool car park, meets
the other car sharers and they all begin their car sharing journey
to work !! I still have not moved more that 100 yards and I can't
help thinking that even if each car shared with just one driver, this
traffic jam would be halved, and the more people that shared a car,
the shorter the line of cars - perhaps we would not even be in a traffic
jam? The savings too in petrol and wear and tear must be massive -
the flaw in the system was quite a big one, how do you find a compatible
car sharer, after all sharing a car with someone who you don't get
on with has its problems !! The concept is green, good for the planet
and our bank balance. Skill Studio - www.skillstudio.co.uk - Public speaking is no longer confined to 'the stage' or great debates, public speaking is commonplace in our business life and to many in their everyday life. There is a natural fear of public speaking and this form of verbal presentation is a common cause of stress, probably brought on by a myth that public speakers are born, or they kissed the Blarney Stone and we are but mere mortals deprived of the 'gift of the gab'. Most of us have sat in a chamber of commerce meeting whilst individuals have stood up and very fluently, in front of hundreds of people - said their bit, oozing with confidence ... and we have remained seated wishing that we too had the personality to make a speech like that. Those tasked with delivering a presentation have enough to worry about with OHP, Powerpoint, Laser Pencils, Dodgy Microphone, Boss in the Audience, Camcorder Recording, Local Press and that frog in the throat ... and then they have to make a speech. Quick get a return ticket to Blarney Castle to snog a rock!! Spectrum
